I have determined that I seriously need a hobby. Though it's not so much the not having things to do, but more of a poor time management thing on my part. Of all the the things I needed to get accomplished yesterday (i.e. homework, hip hop abs, cleaning, and what not) I pretty much only did the hip hop abs and then out of shear boredom apparently had a moment of pure stupidity.
Okay, what had happened was...I realized that Jen is going to be busy the majority of this week (she leaves on Sunday to fly back home to Colorado to pick up her son who has had visitation with his dad since like Aprilish)--So I get the bright idea to invite her over to hang out with me, Grandma, and Aunt Melissa and have dinner (and of course stay the night). I told her we were having beans and cornbread (though I'm sure she was a little disappointed when she realized that when my family says beans, we literally mean beans) lol--she thought I meant Chili... I was like, no, I would have said Chili if we were having chili :) Six of one, 1/2 dozen of another...
So anyway--the 15 bean soup was pretty bad ass and hit the spot. After cleaning up the mess I decided that while I was still motivated I'd do my workout. Yesterday was the first day that I had to do two DVDs rather than the normal one. 3/4 of the way into it I was cussing the TV and Shaun T, the hip hop abs guy...flipping the TV off and everything. I was convinced I was going to die, but I finished it...so right on.
While I worked out I had the wax heating (one of the great things about being a professional cosmetologist is that I can buy professional products for home use, but get them at a killer deal, not what they are marked up to in salons--last year I treated myself to a waxing spa. It comes with the stuff to do legs, arms, bikini, eyebrows...anything you can think to wax really)...
I trimmed up Jen's hair so that she'd be presentable to see her folks this weekend and waxed her brows for her. She's kind of a wimp when it comes to these things and on a fucked up level I really enjoy inflicting pain on people in that sense (I wanted to be a piercer or tattoo artist for a while, lol)... Well Jen, got a wild hair up her ass and was like let me wax your arm pits.
Ya'll should know that I only shave the pits like maybe once a week (and that's if I think about it)... kind of gross I know, but skin is easily irritated and I'd rather have hairy pits than itchy bumpy ones ya know, but again, I digress. But it drives jen insane (she's a I shave every day kind of girl)
So I agree to her waxing my pits. Granted, I know its going to hurt like a mother fucker because when I first got the wax system I attempted to wax my arm pits just to try it out and I nearly died. So she's all like, "We don't have to do this..." I told her that it would make her feel better (she had had a shitty day and I knew that if she was anything like me she'd enjoy being on that end of the wax...
YANK!!! Dear god--okay I survived, the problem was that I put my arm down and the wax residue made my arm stick to my body so the lifting of my arm part was rather difficult...a couple more Yanks trying to remedy this situation...and the pit was smooth as a babys butt...the other one was done for symmetry but by this point, Jen, who was feeling bad for "not doing it right," as she put it (I think she did fine under the circumstances)... out of nowhere says, so you wanna wax me... "down there..."
I said I would do an "edge" as a test strip because I didnt want her to have a reaction to the wax and be miserable and out of commission for several days...some how or another we decided to wax her lower back (side note...in a past life I was part Sasquatch and am always having to wax or pluck...its kind of out of control, Jen is similar in many ways)...so anyway-- I apply the wax over her "tramp stamp" and attempt to yank out the little baby hairs that have come in, but before I can really even get it on her she's freaking out...."okay i can't do this, it's gonna be hot, oh my god..." and what have you....
Thats when it happened. I pissed my pants. Literally, no almost about it. 28 damn years old and peed my pants like I was 2... REALLY...I could not stop laughing...neither one of us could breathe I was laughing so hard...Aunt Melissa hollers up the stairs..."Are you guys alright...are ya'll laughing or crying? BOTH I yelled down the stairs...
I pull myself together and get the strip applied....she changes her mind. Nope I can't do it she yelled...I start to flip out in the midst of my laughing explaining that once the wax is on and strip to remove it is pressed to it, there is no turning back, it's gotta come off and the only way to have that happen is to YANK!!! Suprise yank....she jumped up went running into the other room, cussing, tearing up, the works...me...I'm still laughing...
Moral of the story is, homework was postponed one more day, the upstairs is still a mess, but damn if I don't have some killer smooth arm pits--it's a shame that it feels like I put out a hot poker in each one of them. It's not even comfortable to have my arms down yet....FRIGGIN' A... I need to get a hobby.

Work Woes
So I need to vent...that way my head doesnt explode on the drive home...
Sometimes I hate my job. Being the On-site supervisor for a staffing agency that provides labor to a warehouse really isn't difficult in theory...but the little things that you have to deal with can add up.
Over the last couple of weeks, we brought in about 19 people to do a rework project (inspecting chairs mostly)...Yesterday I had to tell ten of them there was no more work and today another six. Granted they knew going in that it was a short term assignment with the possibilities of getting into a different department as we ramp up for Peak season...but still it bums me out.
Technically they arent fired, they are just on the "bench" waiting for a new assignment, but no one wants to have to tell someone in today's economy that sorry--No work for you, sorry about your luck. My record to date is having to fire/lay off 13 people in one day. That was brutal.
Like I said, this situation is a little different because they aren't fired as of yet...but if something doesnt become available, they will be.
I so often feel like the bad guy...it's sad sometimes.
I've learned a lot having this position. I can still remember firing my first person labor day weekend of last year...I cried when i got home. I understand now that there are often things out of my control such as lay offs...but when it comes to folks not performing or meeting expectations and I'm coaching them and doing everything in my power to get them to where they need to be and they repetitively fall short--then yeah...you have to go.
I'm not here to be everyone's friend, though a lot of the Cost Plus's employees come to me to vent just to be heard (though they know I have no control with the way that the warehouse runs its business.) But I digress.
I've grown a lot working here...even if I am just a contractor (what my company calls its temps basically)...Contractor sounds better and suggests a great level of stability and respect, which my company does offer whenever possible. I was hired as a contractor with plans to become the On premise manager within six months, but because of the economy and Cost Plus's restructuring that left me in limbo for a while... you see where my contractors are striving to become Cost Plus employees, I'm working to become an internal employee for my company...(hence the limbo) I'm not considered a contractor by my contractors and I'm not seen as an internal employee by my company so it's weird. But it works for me right now since I'm so close to being done with school.
Nonetheless...it's time to go home. My Aunt Melissa has been with Grandma all day so it's time for me to give her a break, do some hip hop abs, watch some tv and friggin do some homework...I hope everything works out in the long run.
I have a chin hair to pluck before it drives me 'batshit crazy' I can feel it

Strawberry Banana Snack Mix
I'm not much of a trail mix, chex mix, snack mix, or mix person in general. It normally seems like a waste of money to buy a mix of something when I'm simply going to just pick out what I want and throw the rest away. (the exception to this is the Turtle Chex mix--which I only eat the caramel covered stuff and pitch the rest...and only from time to time)
But I digress. Cost Plus World Market apparently sells strawberry Banana Snack Mix. I know this, not because I went to the store and bought it but because there is a pallet of the stuff in the warehouse that is going to expire soon so we can't ship it to the stores and get it sold prior to it expiring--so it's being given away for free. I will admit, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to give it a go.
The mix is comprised of banana chips, dried strawberries, peanuts, almonds, chocolate covered peanuts, white chips (they look like white chocolate chips but I don't think they are chocolate), etc... okay...I have discovered that I am still picking out only the things I like, but I did at least attempt to be adventurous and try at least one of everything in the bag...
Findings: banana chips are actually kind of enjoyable but have a weird aftertaste because of the peanuts they are mixed with; dried out strawberries--even though still a little gummy are the among the most disgusting things I've ever put in my mouth and I literally almost vomited upon biting into it (I think its a texture thing); the almonds are great, the white chips are overrated; the chocolate covered peanuts are not the best I've ever had. I'd have to give it a 3 out of 10.
I don't know, my rating may be a little biased, but I will tell you that it's not something I would pay money for that is for sure. Really everything in the bag tastes like peanuts because the peanuts over power everything...It's kind of gross the more i munch on it and yet I'm still compelled to eat it as if there will magically be something fabulous appear if I keep eating it...ugh.

She called me out
Okay so I had a revelation last night (well not really, Jen called me out...but it's something I had been aware of for a while). Even though I gave up soda and what not all I've really done is find a sugar substitute. By substitute I don't mean Splenda, or equal or sweet n low...nope...that would be too smart...too easy...I mean POPSICLES. Lol.
Those wonderfully delightful frozen treats...you cut the top off and push them up and enjoy what awaits you (essentially frozen sugar water, lol). I wasn't going to do Hip Hop Abs last night, but at the last minute opted to (only to make it difficult to fall asleep because I was all "pumped up" and not so much in relax mode any longer)... I'm still glad I did it. I had Jen measure me and while neither one of us think we are measuring accurately....but it seems that I've already lost about 4 and half inches off of my bottom half (though I might have gained an inch or two up top) HA..I don't freaking know. I feel better when I do it thats the important thing.
Now if I can lay off the sugar for a while I'll be in real good shape. Whats the moral of this morning's most random you ask? I need to buy the stuff to start making my own popsicles. Lol. The question is do I finish off the ones that are left in the freezer as to not be wasteful or just give them to my brother and his girlfriends kid? Ugh...decisions decisions.
I'm kind of boring myself always talking about hip hop abs or soda or sugar or whatever...but its weird its like you alter your lifestyle to try and make healthier decisions and you become more aware of the situation at hand. I don't want the concept of weight loss to consume my life in terms of conversation and what not...I still want to be able to function in a group with other topics and what not...I dunno...it's difficult to explain.
Oh well...I need to do some work. I was a few minutes late this morning. I almost called out, I had two excuses to choose from. But since I couldn't choose between a case of "anal glaucoma" (not being able to see my ass going to work) or merely surviving monday I figured I might as well come in...its not like I have sick time to take advantage of and I need as many hours as I can get.

Skinny Dieters?
I love quotes. I spend a lot of time at www.quotegarden.com because I can pull up a topic for the day based on how I'm feeling and what not and just get lost. Today I found these fabulous treats:
I've decided that perhaps I'm bulimic and just keep forgetting to purge. ~Paula Poundstone
That's a quote I can relate to, plus Paula Poundstone is just an hilarious comic. I remember seeing her on comedy central several times...always made me laugh)
Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. ~Author Unknown
That quote baffles me and pisses me off at the same time. That's the gayest supposed inspirational shit I've EVER heard. How does one know how fabulous thin feels when she came out of the womb plus size. Ugh... It's a good thing the author is unknown, otherwise I'd have to google the idiot who said it, go to their house and hit them in the forehead with a snickers bar or something out of shear principle.
When I buy cookies I eat just four and throw the rest away. But first I spray them with Raid so I won't dig them out of the garbage later. Be careful, though, because that Raid really doesn't taste that bad. ~Janette Barber
I found this amusing as well. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've thrown out things I shouldn't be eating and really considered digging it out of the trash to finish it. I can't help it, I have a love hate relationship with food. I love it and it hates me in the most offensive fashion.
Why is it that when you are trying to better yourself (like I am, but in baby steps)...there is always someone who comes along and tries to screw it up for you. There is this girl that I work with, a few years younger than me, so in her mid 20s who is maybe like a size 3, if that. She's obsessed with losing weight. She's always loudly counting her calories talking about how gross she is and what not....I really just want to shake her and be like "Bitch, shut up and eat a cheeseburger before you blow away." I'm not generally one of those angry "big girls" that hates skinny women by any means. There is a lot that comes into play in the area of weight and you'll never know ALL of someone's circumstances.
It just irks me to know end when skinny women talk about how fat they are and this and that...I want to scream, are you kidding me I'D KILL TO BE ABLE TO BUY CLOTHES THAT SIZE AND HAVE THEM ACTUALLY FIT, to get clothes at a bargain rather than have to rely on overpriced clothing like Lane Bryant and what not.
I just don't understand it. I love myself and I want to better myself so I'm at the point where I'm doing it little by little. I've never been a little girl...hell, my senior year of high school I was a 16, but I was curvy and sexy...now I'm just REALLY CURVY and sexy, lol. But for real, it's discouraging to be working so hard at something (though I know there are things that I still need to improve, such as my eating habits) but I'm getting there, only to have someone rail then everything short of a super model suck the life out of me and go on and on and on about how she feels guilty for eating a big sandwhich...or taking too many breaths of air...how many calories are in air again...OH MY GOD SHUT THE HELL UP WILL YOU.
Go put yourself in Time out before I'm snap and begin force feeding you cheeseburgers and candy bars--JUST MAKE THE INSANITY STOP.
I'm much like Cathy from the comic strip (remember her? She was always dieting and stuff was always going awry...What is this world coming to. I've got well over a hundred pounds to lose to get to where I ideal want to be and if I kill her it's going to fuck up my progress thus far (the little I've made) because I'm going to have to barbeque her and eat her to hide the evidence....eww. Just kidding...I kinda just vomited in my mouth.
I guess I can get off my soap box for a minute...I mean it's lunchtime and all...priorities priorities priorities.

While you were out...
I've done it...28 days with no soda. (For the sake of a nice even number I'm going to simply say I've accomplished this goal and maintained for an entire month.) This is exciting to me.
Last week also marked my first full six day Hip Hop Ab work out regimen (just the exercise portion, not so much my diet)...Sunday was the day for rest/recovery and I was thankful for it to say the least...but I've gotta keep going. It's going to take time, since the proverbial small print points out that the six pack abs don't actually come with the DVDs--you have to actually work at it...a bummer, but nonetheless.
I start my last three classes today to finish my bachelor's degree. Yep...11 weeks from today I'm done...with graduation to follow sometime in October. Downside--student loan payments will be expected then....and I'll slowly have to start chiseling my way at over fifty grand in student loans I've accumulated in the last ten years of trying to make this happen, ick.
The senior seminar course I'm required to take may be the death of me--in reviewing the syllabus I realized that there is going to be a twenty page paper due at the end of the course. Ugh, are you kidding me. I love to write blogs...not actual papers...come on now. My other two classes want ten pages papers so yep...forty typed pages by APA standards over the course of the next 11 weeks...all which are a substantial portion of my grade. Perhaps this quarter, with it being my last few classes will inspire me to do things differently (like NOT procrastinate for instance)... I guess time will tell.
I need a nap. I want to curl up in the down comforter and just sleep the day away....oh how fabulous that would be. Blah...not today I'm afraid.

The Secret is in the Sauce
So my girlfriend Jen told me about SITS (The Secret is in the Sauce) after I shared with her how excited I was when I received my very first comment on one of my blogs. Granted I haven't been blogging too terribly long, but I blog a lot so I'm already up over 100 posts and considering the randomness of my blogs in general I was quite excited to have a following of 3 (though 1 had to get rid of her blog because of a stalker issue, which brought me back down to 2, and well truth be told, one of those is Jen...so okay just 1 follower)...
The thing is it's not about the following for me (though that is hella exciting aspect as well) because I read a quote somewhere that said something along the lines of do not write for your audience, something about write as if you have no audience at all (okay who am I kidding...I can't remember the quote, but in searching for the exact quote again, I found this one instead and I REALLY like it:
"Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia." ~E.L. Doctorow
That to me is it exactly. I can be my true self and it can be deemed totally acceptable. I'm going to write...sometimes people may not understand it, nor agree with it, or even like it for that matter, but I'm going to write... It isn't about who is or isn't reading this blog, it's about getting the thoughts out of my head before they ravage me and drive me insane. It all makes sense in the long run. If you write to appease an audience then you are stifling your true self, if you are writing because it's what you are passionate about (whether the topic be pistacios or world peace) You'll be heard...even when people don't know they are listening.
Anyway...I'm excited by this SITS thing. I want to be exposed to new thoughts and ideas. In the past my guilty pleasure was Myspace...I cancelled that account...then I gave Facebook a try...nope that wasn't for me either. Blogging however is something that I was meant to do. It just works for me and staying true to myself is important to me.
So anyway if anyone reads this and is curious, the aforementioned SITS site can be reached through the pink and leopard print icon on the side of this blog. Maybe you'll be interested as well.

Mondays
So like a good portion of the population, Mondays are not among my favorite day. I find myself waking up (after not nearly enough sleep because I was too greedy and didn't want the weekend to end) to find myself drained beyond belief and wanting to fast forward to at least Friday so that Saturday lingers just around the corner and I can be found nestled in the covers sleeping in and just being lazy.
I had a theory in which I thought I might write a letter to someone requesting that Mondays just be removed from Calendars in general so that I as well as the rest of the world no longer have to endure dreaded Mondays.
My letter writing was halted however when I snapped out of my "blonde moment" and realized that even with Mondays gone, the issue would continue only people would begin to hate Tuesdays...and what the heck did Tuesday ever do to me (or anyone for that matter).
Nobody wants the weekend to end, but I guess I'll just have to continue to curse mondays at least until I win the lottery and don't have to worry about coming to work anymore. I could be an eccentric millionaire instead and just pretend like Mondays don't exist but that the weekend gained an extra day....or five of them....my weekend would be from Saturday to Friday... yes my friends, a nonstop weekend.
I mean hey, a girl can dream can't she? Ugh...Monday continues....Boo Hiss.

Annoyed
I hate having to rely on someone else to be reliable in order for me to perform my job to the best of the abilities. Today is Monday--payroll day. I work in a warehouse, but not for the warehouse company (does that make sense)? I work for a staffing agency that provides labor to the warehouse and I am the on-site supervisor. Normally, a cool gig--today however, I am completely annoyed.
You see, in order for me to do my portion of payroll, I have to hope that someone from the actual client company will show up that can print time cards for me because I do not have access to their system which manages time. Translation: once again the person who normally prints out time cards so that I can verify hours and submit them so that my contractors get paid is once again NOT HERE.
The secondary person, who I feel like should have a great sense of urgency, as she used to work for my company but recently transitioned after a layoff and now works for the warehouse company is swamped because she is doing her work, plus the work of the other girl in HR. Really??? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that I'm on the to do list at all, but here it is 8:23 am...I'd normally be finishing up time card verifications, noting any corrections that need to be made by this point of my Monday and have them ready to take to the 8:45 meeting so that the various warehouse supervisors and Ops managers can approve the hours of my contractors...
Not today, Not today...Nope--Today will be spent hunting down supervisors in the warehouse, begging for signatures, in addition to my normal responsibilities which include, but are not limited to: reporting daily information to my boss at the main office, coaching/mentoring of contractors, getting things ready for tomorrows all contractor meeting (where I have to speak mind you) and I have a phobia of speaking in front of crowds....
Can I just fast forward to Friday evening....I HATE MONDAYS!!!
On a happy note, I have vented and The secondary person just brought me the time cards, let's see how quick I can be with verifications and not screw up peoples hours. Fun and exciting...Oh happy day.

Ignorant Redneck Assholes
So Jen and I are in Food Lion this evening when this family (a mom, dad, and three teens) come barreling obnoxiously down the frozen foods aisle. One of the girls was bouncing a ball like she was five...(I was thinking I swear if I was her parent I'd beat the shit out of her right now, teenager or not)...of course then I realized that the parents were just as bad.
Anyway some comments were made having something to with how butch one of us was (Jen thinks it was her and I think it was me)--I'm thinking I'd be the "butch one" since I've got the fucked up dude haircut right now...though its hard to say since Jen is "Sporty spice, lol"...anyway they say some bullshit, snicker, and try to play it off when Jen starts glaring at them.
We get out into the parking lot where I find myself fighing the urge to flip the fuckers off (though I did mouth the word asshole in the their general direction... I'm so not the "bigger person" that I'd like to be...
Jen got quite fired up by the ignorance demonstrated..."yay small towns," lol. Ignorance is everywhere, small towns, big towns...EVERYWHERE. For example, I frequently get asked...well which one of you is the boy and which is the girl. WTF people....neither one of us is the boy...WE ARE BOTH GIRLS/WOMEN...Thats kind of the whole point of Lesbianism...
Let the recruiting begin....only three free toaster ovens left....ACT NOW!!! If you become a lesbian in the next three minutes I'll also throw in a really cool swiss army knife...WHO CAN RESIST THAT... a toaster and a knife ...all for joining the team... GIVE ME AN "L" GIVE ME AN e GIVE ME AN S GIVE ME AND B....OKAY YOU GET THE POINT, YAY LESBIAN!!! LOL
